This ranch style home was built in the late 1950’s and was perfect for this family of five. The house had been purchased by the client with hopes of one day finishing out the terrace level for their growing family. This area was ideal for some much needed extra living space, with ceiling heights of 9 ½ feet tall. The existing terrace level was completely finished out to house a second kitchen, playroom, game room, guest bedroom and bathroom, and enormous great room.

This house had multiple areas that needed to be addressed in terms of expansion and updating. The kitchen was outdated and felt overwhelmingly cramped. It was expanded with a new addition off the rear, offering spaces that were more worthwhile for family time. The new area was also vaulted, creating a classic, open, and light feeling. As a visual feature, a casement of arched windows and a built-in window seat with storage was added for additional seating overlooking the new rear terrace. The clients also desired a larger breakfast area in the kitchen with the capacity to house a table to seat at least six.

The existing pool in the backyard seemed distant from the house. The homeowners wished to have more of connection between the kitchen and pool area for entertaining. In the new design, a terrace was built in the rear of the house, adding space for outdoor dining under a wood-beam portico, complete with a fire pit. This area was finished with a stone staircase leading up to the pool.

To create more curb appeal, the entry stairs and railings were reworked in stacked stone. A new gable above the entry way and columns flanking the front door helped to revamp the image of the home, creating focus on the front portico. In addition, the master bathroom was renovated within the existing footprint and some cosmetic changes were made throughout the house.
