This kitchen was original to the 1948 ranch house, and presented itself as an eyesore in an otherwise updated home. It provided an awkward layout for entertaining, being divided in half by a makeshift pantry fashioned out of bookshelves and wrapped in louvered bi-fold doors (a temporary fix that lasted an uncomfortable ten years). A fair amount of entertaining had transpired in this space over a decade, and with this renovation came an opportunity to reinvent this space for everyday convenience and as a dramatic hub for entertaining. 

The functional goal of this kitchen renovation was to expand the usable space by relocating the washer / dryer, eliminating the 2-top café table and replacing it with a 4-top in the adjacent sunroom, adding a functional pantry and incorporating additional counter space and storage with an island. 

The vibe of the house was already established- an eclectic mix of mid-century, Italian Art deco, and modern clean pieces. The style of the kitchen was intended to compliment this feel, with bold color, dramatic contrasts, graphic tile patters, and retro fixtures. Signature details include floating stainless steel shelves at the window above the sink, a bold chevron tile pattern at the range, with custom glass tile brackets, and a signature Johnathan Adler Chandelier positioned over the stainless steel island. 

The pantry was recessed in to a newly constructed wall niche and flanked with sconces for soft lighting. It was created utilizing a Bedroom Closet system offering discrete storage for the microwave and sound system, as well as drawers and specialty storage for pantry items), while offering a bold black-brown backdrop to frame the island and chandelier.
