This 1955 brick ranch home had undergone a magnificent landscape transformation prior to its sale in late 2010, featuring lush gardens and an infinity pool that was inspiring. The purchasers fell in love with the home even before they saw the interior. Upon viewing the interior, these ambitious owner-to-be determined that they were ready to own this property, and were prepared to do for the interior what the former owners had so successfully done to the exterior. 

The main focus was going to be the Kitchen. The planning objectives were to open the Sunroom to the Kitchen / Keeping Rooms, and to expand the views to the rear yard and infinity pool. The owners liked clean, sleek lines, contrasting dark wood and light walls, and contemporary furnishing with splashes of color. 

The following elements were incorporated into the final design:

1. Ceilings- To add volume to the Keeping room, the eight foot ceiling was vaulted to twelve feet, following the cues from the architecture. The Sunroom ceiling featured original beams and tongue/groove details. These were repeated in the Kitchen ceiling to create interest and uniformity.
2. Floors- The oak flooring was stained Ebony, adding drama and contrast. 
3. Cabinetry- The cabinetry layout was redefined, providing for the following features:
   a. The ovens were removed from the rear wall, making way for a larger window, overlooking the infinity pool. 
   b. New pantry cabinets were designed, creating a dramatic portal to the Dining Room beyond. 
   c. A multi-level island was designed incorporating a sleek parsons table with an elevated glass top. 
4. Mantle- The traditional brick 42” high mantle was reinvented with a solid plane of split-face travertine, extending from floor to ceiling.
